Wash
If you can wash your knitwear in the washing machine, there are some precautions you should take when choosing the program. Meshes don't like hot water. The technique used to felt wool, for example, is to rub it with hot water and soap, in order to create that “pilb”. Now…. If what we want is to prevent our knitwear from becoming pilled, then it is best to wash them in cold water (or at 30ºC) and with the spin cycle set to minimum.
To avoid this friction between mesh pieces you can also use 2 tips: Use mesh bags. Don't have mesh bags big enough for your mesh? Use a cotton pillowcase.
Furthermore, place your knits inside out in the machine so that the outer part is better protected. Using a neutral detergent, or one specifically designed for delicate clothes, as well as the right dose of fabric softener, also makes all the difference. This can damage the fibers and reduce the useful life of the clothes.
Now that you know how to care for your knitwear, you can enjoy your favorite pieces for much longer.
Drying
Smelling and washed knitwear, it's time to dry. First of all, never put knitwear in the dryer. It's half the battle and they'll shrink and look bad in no time. First dry your items horizontally, without twisting, in the shade and away from heat sources. When saving When they are completely dry, to prevent them from taking on a damp odor, store them without folding them too much, in a drawer or cupboard. Avoid hanging heavy items as they will end up becoming deformed. Extra tip Avoid washing your knitwear too often. Unless they are visibly dirty, leaving the item to air for a few hours or using a disinfectant spray for fabrics is enough. You can also wash only the dirtiest areas, such as cuffs and collars, by hand and let them dry. Excessive washing can damage the fibers and reduce the useful life of the clothing.
